Not sure what you mean. In addition to the release notes I found the updated user's guides very well done and helpful.
Also, if you are going to be at NAB we just announced fxguide live, a 3 hour tips and tricks session before the users group which will have special focus on using 5/8. More info:

We are also hoping to be able to make a DVD of this session available.

Lessons?
There are the training/tutorials built by discreet with a source tape. This will get you through the basics on the older versions of smoke/fire. If you know that stuff really well...? the new feature sets are deeper and heavier tools built on top. Yea, the multi-res stuff is new but wrapping your head around it is the process of making it your own.
I find that tutorials/lessons/classes are helpful but give a single view/path and are generally very conservative. The operators that rip the software generally can do so because they dig deep. Pile all you manuals, release notes, etc. in one place for reference. Practice/test issues that you read about in forums. Guru with fellow operators and test to figure this crazy stuuf out for yourself.
May the force be with you.
