hi everybody,
i am a beginner of combustion, and now i am using it for my project.
for some reason, i cannot find a way to place the transporter beam properly in the footage, where i see in the preview window is a area of line (and in fact i also see that it is a area emitter in the shape option). I can only see a line in my footage whatever which emitter tool i use, and i have been trying to adjust the settings but i cant manged to make it look as same as the one in the preview window, how can i solve the problem?
there are a few more visual effects i want to do.... the first one is to create a bubble around a person, as a sheild. then when something is trying to hit the bubble, there will have some ripple effects on the surface of the bubble.
the next one is a person sitting on the floor, and i want to make it sinking down to the floor, and again there are some ripple effects on the floor around the person.
hope those are not too difficult and big thanks for anybody who help

Hi,
Select your particle emitter and in the emitter controls you will see an option that says "Pre-load Frame" change that vaule and it begin the particles earlier in time. The transporter particle system is a timebased one so when you go forward in time you will see the beams etc. Also remember to place the emitter on the frame you want to start at.
the first one is to create a bubble around a person, as a sheild. then when something is trying to hit the bubble, there will have some ripple effects on the surface of the bubble.
I would try doing this in 3D if possible or make your bubble in photoshop/combustion paint and use the distort filters to achieve the effect you are after.
For your last shot, if you want any effects to happen around the person you need to mask the person out of the background. So you will have two seperate layers. The foreground layer will be the person, the background layer will be the background where you would apply the effects to.
None of these shots will be explainable over a small post like this so its best if you phone some post houses and speak to the compositors and maybe they can give you tips...
Just out of interest, under your name it says university of Kent. Does the university have combustions or is this your own?

Hi Grant,
Thanks for your reply, this is very helpful for me. Yes, I am currently doing my final year project in the university and there are a few PC with combustions installed.

After you place your AREA for the emitter, expand the Transport node where you will see "sparkles" and "llines" with "lines" selected" go to the EMITTER options and deselect "AT POINTS".
Let me know if this does it for you.
