FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! HELP!
This is I'm sure, a very, very simple thing to do (and if and when the answer posts, I'll look like an idiot), but I must be stuck with blinders on b/c I can't figure it out.
HOW IN THE F(&T! does one change the TEXT when utilizing the TEXT PARTICLE EFFECTS in C*?
I obviously don't wish to use "DISCREET" or whatever other text they have pre-sampled, I wish to use my own images and or text. I tried it once by replacing the sample pic, but got mixed results. Isn't there a way to interactively change and resample text in C* using the text particle operator? PLEASE if anyone knows how to do this I'd be most grateful, as it's driving me mad, and I know the answer must be deceptively simple. AGGGGGGGH!!!!!!

Hi,
What you need to do is the following.
Select the text particle that you wish to use (probably says "Discreet" in the text).
Place this on the viewport so that you can see it on the layer and the particle object will appear in the workspace panel inside the particles operator.
Now if you expand the particle object in the workspace panel, you should see one particle type (sub-object). This is what we will use to change the text.
Firstly what you need to do is create your new text. Generally speaking you need to create a bitmap (TGA or TIFF will do) that is normally 128x128 pixels in size. You can try bigger sizes but 128x128 is the default.
Once you have created your bitmap file (in photoshop/combustion), then return to your particles operator in combustion. In the particles menu you will see the tabs on the left of the controls. One of those tabs is called "SHAPE". Click on shape and you will see a list of shapes and a small preview window.
Select the sub-object in your particle object and click the "CURRENT" button. The bitmap for "discreet" will appear in the preview window. This is the current shape that you are using.
Click "Import" to launch the file browser. Navigate through your directories till you get to your new bitmap shape and click OK. The next pop-up window you will get is the settings for this new shape. You will set your alpha settings and so on. Click OK once you have completed the settings. The new shape will appear in the preview window.
Now, again, select the sub-object in the particle object. Once the sub-object is selected you will see a button labelled "SWAP" becomes enabled below the particle preview window. Click on "SWAP" and your old particle shape "Discreet" will disappear and the new text shape will take its place.

:D
A MILLION THANK YOUs!!!!!
THIS HAS BEEN VERY, VERY HELPFUL!
Now if I could only understand why some of the particles in C* don't render or show up in the viewport, or disappear after the first frame, even when they are comped onto an image, I'd be good to go!
Peace.
