View Full Version : Upgrading an old Flint system

Hi all,

I recently got an old Flint 5.5.1 on an Indigo2 . Fully registered and legal.
The system works great, but a bit slow for my taste.

Does anybody here has any ideas on how I can boost it's performance a bit?
Has anyone tried to install this version on an Octane/Octane2? I know ver 6 runs on octane, but never heard of a 5.5.1 doing so.

I don't mind spending some cash on parts/octanes if required. Purchasing a new system from discreet is out of the question due to budget limitations... :(

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

ChenD

What graphic subsystem does it have?

If you have a solid impact or less you can upgrade it to a maximum impact. I have seen it many times on ebay for less than $50 bucks.

Also it is possible that if you have a R8000 processor upgrade it to a R10000 one.
Also check e-bay for it

It's already fitted with Maximum Impact. Also, I think it's a r4400 cpu :?
I would prefer to move the software to another system (octane etc.) which can be upgraded more easily... any thoughts?

Thanks!

i think the box is maxxed-out, performance wise. you might be able to exchange it for one of the newer linux flints, though. if i were you, i'd call discreet sales and see if there's any trade-in value left in the old girl. good luck!
