    Default Flame on Octane?

Can someone give me a quick overview on what the differences are in Octanes? Octane, Octane 2, MXE, MXI? What system would I require to run HD video I/O? What's the minimum I require to run Flame 8? As usual, thanks for the assistance!

    Default Flame/Flint On Octane

    Ok...

The main difference with Octane SE and MXE is the video card/texture memory. First generation Octanes (Green Box) from what I understand cannot run HD. Flint on Octane2 can proccess HD within the machine (render and playback) but cannot I/O HD Material, but this is more of a Discreet configuration with Flint since it only runs with one CPU. Flame on Octane 2 can do HD and up to 4K files but obviously Stone Disk arrays requirements are quite substantial and runs with 2 CPU's. Flint on Octane2 runs like Flame on first generation Octane MXE. At NAB last year we rendered exactly the same setups on Flint and Flame and the was only an average of 3 second difference. So performance is more on the texture memore and Video board rather than in the proccesors. This may not always be the case but it gives you an idea. Since we don't do 2K work we ended up buying a Flint on Octane2 and with Version 8 I've processed HD clips and played them back in realitime.

I hope this gives you a better idea. Maybe some collegues can go more in depth on this matter.

    Default Flame on Octane?

So what would be the minimum that I'd require to run flame 8, or 7.7 either with a HD i/o from tape?
    Thanks for the response

AFAIK there is no HD i/o board for the Octane so if you want to do hi-Def i/o in realtime you'll have to get an octane2

    Default list

    same chassis
    diff frontplane old-xbow1.3 new-xbow1.4
    same systemboard ...-1467-...
    same processors
    diff powersupply
diff XIO filler to allow new Vseries graphics.

To work with any HD source as HD deck or device You need HD input/output as Dmedia2 or 5
To work with any resolution up to 4k but usig ethernet i/o it's enough octane1/2xR12000 300 MHz, MXE.
