Default Problems using camera from 3ds max scene inside Inferno

    Hi,

We're working on a Feature Film shot in HDCAM 1920x1080_23.98psf.

The 3d artis is using 3ds max to model and animate a virtual city block.

We will composite some images to his renedered scence using Inferno 4.0.3.

We asked the 3d artist to export his camera movement in (ase) format so we could import it to Inferno.

But when I import the camera ase file from 3ds max into Inferno the movement doesn't match the rendered clip at all.

This is a coordinate problem we're facing so we'll probably have to scale the camera movement in order for it to match the 3ds max camera.

I'd appreciate if any of you could shed us a light on how to solve this problem and on how to work with 3ds max and inferno, importing/exporting camera movement so that the camera movement will perfectly match in both systems.

    Thanks in Advanced.

it's most likely to do with the axis. Max uses Z-up while everythign else uses Y-up. I daresay that the export and import procedure has not taken this into account. If all else fails, try using the filmbox format as this is one way I've managed to get camera data to and from Flame in the past, mainly because the translation feature gives the option of changing the up co-ordinate.

    hope this helps!

    Hi Pete!

I'll try that tomorrow and I'll let you know what happens.

Do you think I'll also have to scale the Camera movement?

By the way, great website you have.

Alot of interesting articles and tutorials.

    See you,

it's a high possibility you may have to scale the camera to get it to fit exactly. However, if you know the scale of both scenes then it shouldn't be a problem.

Additionally, I assume you've tried using a .3ds file to get the scene / camera info into inferno from max?

    cheers!
