Shake is a powerful compositor.
It is not cheap - so I guess it was a fairly special person who gave it to you.
Shake tutorials is one of the things we are working on now.
Shake is often best used when compositing animation into live action.
Shake is used a lot in KONG, LOTRs and many other major feature films... in fact it has been used on every film to win an Oscar for the last 10 years I believe.
Motion is a motion graphics tool - best used in combination with say After Effects right now.
