whats the best keying module in flame?
Hi all - a wide ranging question here. i have found all the keyers, over the years, to be quite different to each other - in approach and results. im interested in peoples opinions as to which is the one they would always use first, which one is the 'daddy'. i tend to use the master keyer in the keyer module most of the time - but im having little luck with the shot im trying to do at this moment.
thanks

Hi Jon, have to say I generally use the master keyer, but also use keylight quite a lot.

Hi Paul
do you mean the one within the keyer or the big fancy standalone one in batch.

ps i do like keylight and primatte on shake, got great results with that in the past.

Master keyer within main keyer, not the modular keyer node in Batch, I personally find it's too much of a faff, I'd rather construct a batch setup with several master keys than build within the modular.

The most used is definitly the master keyer, but for things like pulling keys off artwork / packs and other unkeyable things I find in the modular keyer to be quite helpful. If you have a good even blue/green scene then the master keyer gives a lovely natural key, esp. on hair etc, but for dirty noisy screens I often find the incisiveness of the mod. keyer to be better.

Hi all - there is an article on Fxguide where they compare all the Flame keyers great read even gets really technical if you're into that, summary
Master Keyer - great on well lit green/blue screens, quick setup with good-great results - using Patches to clean up shadows etc is awesome.
Modular Keyer - great for difficult/creative keying, slow setup with sometimes unbelievably great results - my personal preference simply because of the ability to sample noise, this gives you the least amount of ringing edges even with HD footage shot on HDCAM -with its inherant compression
Colour Warper - Great for selective colour keying - colour replacing etc sharpest edge tool for colour range - moderate setup, good-great results
my preference for transparent type keys, glass windows reflections is to use Keylight in Shake

just out of interest...
i have been struggling with these keys - i have tried modular keyer, master keyer - diamond keyer on combustion and then i tried CFC Keylight in Shake and bingo a perfect key with minimal effort - fantastic - it literally blew away all the other options. unfortunately i dont know why - but it did it.
