2007 = interlace unfriendly
i'm working exclusively in 1080i and am finding it very frustrating that with every layer that i bring into action, i need to manually change to interlaced both in the layer list and also in the keyer.
while the default says to interpret the footage 'as layer' -- it does not, and i need to manually change each layer to interlaced.
has anyone found a workaround for this?

In theory at least, the default interlace/progressive status of layers being added should depend on whether the default image format for the project is progressive or interlace. If you go back to the project creation/modification menu, you should check out what your current project is set to, and switch it to interlace if it is currently progressive.
You might want to check out the following:
http://www.fxguide.com/fxtips-197.html
Even though it refers to previous versions, some/most of the information in there should still be valid.

I am not a Flame op, but a Smoke Editor.
Did you look in the Setup options for Action? There is also an overall render Resolution option.
But I imagine it is set to F1 as well.
