Friday Fun: Viral Industry Funnies

Two online videos with appeal to our industry made waves in the social networking worlds like Twitter and Facebook this week.

The first one, by editor Joy Moeller, is a list of 21 things that a client should and shouldn’t do in an edit session to keep peace with your editor.

The second one places comments about doing (and paying for) work in our business into other contexts.

After the jump you’ll find the videos plus we got a chance to talk with Joy Moeller about her list and the reaction.

First up is a comical list of things not to do to stay in a good working relationship with your editor. It features Joy Moeller, Creative Director and Editor at 19 Below in Kansas City and is called EditQuette.

Joy Moeller – EditQuette from Art+Copy Club of Kansas City on Vimeo.

Joy edits primarily Advertising work and her tool of choice is Avid. Much like the popular TED talks the format of the talk was prescribed by the event, a maximum number of slides, length of talk. I spoke with Joy today and asked her a few quick questions about the video.

fxg: How do this talk come about?
Joy: It was hosted by the Art & Copy Club here and they actually had a speaker who was unable to do it, they asked me a couple of weeks before if I could do it.

fxg: What was the reaction after the talk?
Joy: That night was awesome, during the presentation and then afterwards and emails the next day. I was proud.

fxg: Are you aware that it’s become a sensation since it hit the net?
Joy: I’m excited about it! I’ve gotten emails and Facebook messages from different editors in different states and stuff, it’s really fun to hear their responses.

fxg: Any new items you’d like to add to the list now?
Joy: Everyone can relate to some on the list and then they have alterations on some, like “mine’s not the snapping, mines’s the ‘woof’ “. Most others are like “how’d you narrow it down?”.

The second video is titled: The Vendor Client relationship – in real world situations. This one hits very close to home anyone in the business who have had these types of interactions with clients.
