Put your BG on a 3D card. Then use the 3D Displace node. I know you can use the luminance and other settings to animated the displace settings. I used this to have a ripple effect applied to a painting.

Let us know if this solved it for you

to do a 2d distort you need to copy the channels that you wish to distort with into the data stream with a copy node I tend to use UV. Nuke wants TWO channels. One for x and one for y. so if you only have one say luminance or red copy the same info into BOTH channels.

then append an iDstort and nominate these channels as the displace channels in the UV node.

    Simple huh !

Hey aneks no need for UV u can use Alpha channel as a UV… add ur alpha with ur BG plate using Shuffle copy node…… n IDistort UV Channels to alpha and then adjust UV offset…..

(Hi aesnakes thanks for u toooooo….. that way we make only distract (im asking about displace)… got it)
