no replys at the general forum, so i’ll give it another try:
hi guys,
i’d like to build my own 3D tracking device for a bluescreen shot. does anyone know what that stick/cross with those ping pong balls sticking at each end is called? i’ve seen it a hundred times but i can’t say what it’s called, except “6-ping-pong-ball-stick-thingy” in case anyone knows how to build such a thing (dimensions, material, what to be aware of etc.), let me know. even if your information is very rough it’ll definitly be helpful.
thx for your help
Guido

Infrared cameras are positioned on all sides. Because the spheres are brighter than anything else (actors wear black suits or green/blue suits to camouflage with the background screen) they collect the position of the spheres. these cameras are attached to a computer that converts the info of the cameras into a 3d database of the position of every sphere within the space.
The data-set then is exported into some animation programs that reproduce the sphere movements into an IK/FK skeleton.
And that is how it works on general terms.
