5D to FCP to Smoke workflow

Anyone have a workflow to move media to FCP, cut it and then conform in smoke?
I try to relink via the gateway with the FCP XML, but the smoke grabs random footage, and not the footage called for in the XML.
Anyone?

have you tried to convert the h264 to proRes?

and maybe name the in a way smoke likes before you edit offline.

It’s a bit of work but i never had trouble later.
(even when i try to avoid 5D footage 😉 )
