I know im a noob and will have alot of dumb questions, so PLEASE forgive me.
I have been using AE for years and am trying to work through Nuke 5.01. How can i get a ADD merge operation like in AE?
I figured out how to multiply my AO pass on my diffuse pass. amd then tweak the OA pass with a levels, and everything works great. But for comping my highlight pass, i build a pain in the ass round about hack. dupe the Diffuse pass crank up the gain an tweak out the curves then use my highlight pass as a mask, merge those with the original using my highlight pass as a geometric mask. When all i need is a fricken ADD merge operation!
Is this just one of those composting rules that says ADD IS BAD?
Also, other then CVI is her any other video tutorials for nuke online?

But to answer your question just like you multiply your AO pass to your diffuse pass using a merge (multiply), you would use a merge (plus) for you specular pass or reflection pass. Good luck.

Using the PLUS looks almost identical to the SCREEN operator. when i get more time i will try to do a A vs. B comp to highlight my problem. Maybe im just an idiot and I’m expecting a difforent result.
Thanks

In other words you have to make sure you work in linear space in ps and afx first before you can compare any operations.June 27, 2008 at 4:54 pm #216941Austin BonangParticipantI stumbled onto the ‘Video save valuse’ in the merge and it looks like that is what im looking for.
I always work in video so i have very little experience in Linear color sapce. I will be rendering out EXR files out of Modo wihich are in linear color space, so im sure there will be more questions to come.
Thanks for the help guys!

…yeah apologies, this would be the only technique I know of that has some sort of transfer modes that are similar other than a Math>Add node. Mr. Rueter knows much more about Nuke than most, I would follow his advice 😉
