Advice for Stereoscopic project

Hey

We have been approached by a client to do a stereoscopic project, that is going to be displayed at a trade show.This is our first time doing such a project. We will probably go for a the projector with polarised glasses.

We primarily use combustion and 3ds max here, so I was wondering if combustion is capable for this kind of work flow. We are open to getting another compositing program if required but prefer combustion as our entire team knows how to use it. We were also wondering if there was a special type of final file format required for these type of 3d projectors. Any advice would be appreciated.If any one has any links to more information that would be great.

if your team already knows combustion well, then go for Toxik [ composite for max and maya ]
its has stereo tools built in, and supports DLP output if u have the right hardware.

nukeX with ocula would save you a lot of time if your team is familiar with it and its workflow.
as far as formats go, look up the specs of a typical projector >

Hey thanks for your suggestions, I think we might look up toxic , since we are on a subscription we should be able to get a deal on it. I was also wondering does anyone know if there is a certain type of file required for these 3d projectors?

there is no file format. you will be delivering a full uncompressed left and right eye render. the company handling the projection will tell you what kind of files they want.

the DVS clipster is great for encoding stereo, quite painless..

i believe smoke on mac (2011) has the stereo tools as well. not as robust as NUKE or toxic, but it’s an option.
