I gotta say, for multi-CPU users GridIron’s http://www.gridironxfactor.com/products/nucleo_overview.asp new Nucleo plugin for After Effects rocks. Several weeks ago, I received my new Mac G5 Quad machine…and have been working around the lack of true multi-CPU support by doing local distributed renders.
But this new plugin from the folks who deal with distributed rendering is really nice. My CPUs went from 25-40% capacity up to almost 100% all the time during renders and previews. Its not *totally* transparent to the end user, but I gotta say its pretty damned good. My renders on the Quad are close to being cut in half.
Temporal plugins don’t work well with Nucleo (like Twixtor) — but that’s not uncommon in the world of network rendering.
Anyway…I suggest checking it out. If you’ve invested in $3K on a multi proc machine (Mac or Windows) as well as After Effects — $149 ain’t that much to get a new machine.[/url]
