up to date, combustions seems to be still more stable on pc than on mac.
but this is just hear-say for me, since i’m on pc.-rayk

Ciao

sorry if I don’t answer in french but is really long time that I don’t write in French… so I’ll use my bad english!I think you should test both system before buying anything… sometimes more ideal power doesn’t match with the real performance.
In order to reasset your factory I think you should ask to your reseller a test!
If you can!
Bye!April 15, 2004 at 10:43 am #207944RaykParticipantXavier,graph,
I can understand, that you guys are pround to be french-canadian.
But this is an international board and if you like it or not most readers don’t understand french. I don’t mind if you send greetings and short messages in your native language -be it French, Italien, German, whatever.
So please try to stick with the English language. I mean what would you think, if I answer some questions in German or maybe Russian (ok, have to polish this up, quite a bit 😯 )Nonetheless, thank you guys for being part of this forum.

i think if you had a fiber channel disk array like the framestore of highend product, you probably reduce the gap between IO performance between pc,mac vs. sgi.
So it a oder bench…
See ya

I don’t think so,
Combustion, AE, or something like those don’t play from the disk so you cannot reproduce the stream without another software.
but shake does it (using the “-monitor” option – I’ve just read it in an italian forum : renderglobal.org).
If you have a I/O subsystem there’s no problem!
Remember this when you’ll buy your next system!
April 15, 2004 at 3:10 pm #207945breakfast222ParticipantLuc,
April 16, 2004 at 1:25 am #207941XavierParticipantHi,
Sorry for diverting the thread to French! I know Luc is a big PC fan, so I just was surprised to see him ask about the G5. I thought I would “give him a hard time” a little en Français.
For a good discussion of discreet vs. SGI vs. PCs vs. Macs, check out this thread:

Luc, I know your interest for the G5 comes from the Sapphire tests on that other thread. I noticed that the guy with the G5 tested the Sapphires with After Effects, not Combustion. Be careful. I don’t know about plug-ins, but last time I checked (admittedly a long time ago), combustion was about half the speed of After Effects for rendering.
Make sure you get a chance to test a G5 vs. PC with the same disks, same RAM and obviously same software…
Since you like benchmarks so much:

Bye!
