Very little is known about the new version so far, but Apple says the new release will be a Universal Binary port, allowing it to run natively on Apple’s Intel-based hardware. The company also says that the new version, running on a high-end MacBook Pro, offers performance to rival G5 Quad systems in some ways–including the ability to handle 2k compositing on a laptop system.
“[It has] absolutely stunning performance, so much so that we’re actually showing 2k compositing on a MacBook Pro [on the NAB show floor],” said Kirk Paulsen, senior director, professional applications marketing for Apple.
