Hola!
I’m a FA looking to setup a power house laptop next to the Flame to run Combustion and add some extra punch and versatility to my everyday workflow.
Currently I try to run it in my Sony VAIO Z1, which is more like a connectivity laptop so it does’t have a good video card to work with… so my question is what kind of (proven) laptop you recommend for this kind of setup? Which laptop or desktop replacement you will recommend to run Combustion beyond the minimum requirement of the software…?
Note that I will use the same laptop to do all photoshop works, FTP transfers, postings for the clients, etc…
PC only please.
Thank you for any help on this… 8)

Well, perhaps I should elaborate a bit more in the scenario. The company I work for has several Flame suites and the schedulling department keep shifting the artist around (like editors) and moving them from room to room depending on the projects. So thats why I need a laptop, so I can take it with me to all these rooms. I really need the mobility factor to make this idea work.
Remember the bulk (90% of the work) will be done in the Flame, and thats what the clients are paying for… I will probably set up Combustion to help me out do quick compositings, matte animations, type setup and other straight compositings while I’m doing the main renders in the Flame, I’ll also use it to generate the slates and share the sparks…
So then again… I’m looking rather for one of those so called “desktop replacements” to see if it can help my workflow.
… if anyone knows what would be the best model to try…
Thanks again..! 😉

has a Nvidia Quadro FX go 1400 gfx card inside…its probably the fastest mobile openGL solution…
perhaps you also can add a video card for framebuffer / i/o / YUV broadcast monitor seeing, into the Dell D/dock expansion station pci slot…don`t know if that is possible…perhaps someone know that…March 24, 2005 at 1:44 pm #209637IggsParticipantHere’s a few more options:

I really dig the Boxx, seems like a kick ass machine. The engies here told me this morning that the support from Boxx really works and that they are specifically made as graphic workstations… perfect!
