Hi guys, I’m pretty new to the forums, but I’m trying to figure out how a certain visual effect is achieved, and I really have no idea how it’s done. The best way I could describe the effect is moving bullet time… These are a couple of examples of what I’m talking about:

and
I understand how traditional Matrix-style bullet time is achieved, but I have no idea when it comes to integrating camera tracking within a bullet time sequence :S If anyone can point me in the right direction of understanding how this is done, that would be amazing!

The examples you linked to are actually simpler than one might think, and typically just involves a single moving camera and rigorous preparation.
Check out Fxguide’s article on Mythbusters http://www.fxguide.com/featured/busted-how-the-mill-helped-mythbusters-blow-stuff-up/
and of course Philips Carousel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5yhxqkJiAQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wBZuxeApe0&feature=related and this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0MjC4mh0aw
FxguideTV ep.#57 talks about the Carousel commercial, check it out.
Also if you have the Heroes season 1 box, you can watch one of the bonus features which talk about the making of that first scene where he stops traffic and saves the little girl. It’s all a very clever arrangement of wires, body part supports, roto/removal, tracking and additional cg which makes it all come together.Cheers!

July 6, 2011 at 1:02 pm #219615AnonymousInactiveoh wow, that’s way simpler than I would have thought! Definitely a lot of work, but very simple π
July 13, 2011 at 11:18 am #219618AnonymousInactiveNot to in any way imply that this is a simple task – it involves so much roto, removal, patching, projecting etc. The wow factor is in how straightforward the setup and filming of it is. Makes you want to try it out on your own, doesn’t it? π
July 13, 2011 at 12:32 pm #219614AnonymousInactivehaha yes, well you know what I mean π
and it absolutely does make me want to try it!
