Hi guys!
Today I got a ocean scene, where I have to put some 3d caravels. The problem is being the 3d tracking, because there is almost nothing trackeable in foreground/midground. The caravels will stay in mid and background, so the solution doesnt need to be perfect close to the camera.

Any help will be welcome!

Because the shot seems to be very stable (Gyro or Spacecam?) you could possibly use a similar offset method to place caravels even closer.
It does seem like there is a slight pan to the camera as well as the “flight” from left to right, so remember to incorporate this into your comp.
I’ve always found that if you can simulate the camera move ROUGHLY in 3D, it makes it much easier to place things.
If your CGI elements are pretty distant – you could also attempt to replace ALL of the distant water with CGI water/caravels- that way it might be easier to blend the “seam” – you would have one large CG element to match, instead of many small ones.
Interested to see the final shot!!
Good luck!

Here my solution: I tracked only the clouds, using the nodal solver, and adjust the movement in 3ds max, giving a little parallax. I think the shadows are misplaced, and the DP go to far with the shadows, but here a wip.

Mocha cant track 3D – so question is, can you use Syntheyes for 2D Tracking in AfterEffects? example: A Camera pan -left to right- or a cameracrane move up and i need trackingpoints for skyreplacement, or place objects on ground, etc. I only have money for ONE at this time. So i think Syntheyes works for both??
Thanks for a hint

Certainly you can use syntheyes for both types of tracking. Syntheyes has very fast 2d tracking, and it is very easy to export 2d data to AE.

Syntheyes costs additional money and is a great camera matchmove software. there is a little crossover but they are really different applications for different needs

Coming to your Question…….. See the near by carvels are not clear . main problem with the video is no depth it is not even looking alike a 2d BG …… cloud BG is just running faster than actual speed it has to run. also moment of the clouds is missing. even though it s image u have to blend multiple layers and get the output …. try again n post pleaseNovember 21, 2009 at 11:03 am #218227Alex BirdmanParticipantAnother option would be to add a separate camera & manipulate the DOF settings instead of scaling the models.Similarly you can also adjust the clipping plane attributes for the same.Hope that helps.
