1. Has 10-bit Quicktime support been fixed?
2. How much RAM can be allocated to the application in Mac OS X Leopard (64-bit) and 64-bit versions of Windows (XP/Vista)?
3. Regarding Adobe product integration, what is new? What is the latest version of Illustrator files supported?
4. What functionality does the Colour Warper offer that isn’t already offered in dedicated color grading applications like Apple’s Color?
5. Is Combustion 2008 fully supported on Mac OS X Leopard?
6. Are there any changes “under the hood” compared to Combustion 4?
Any information that anyone in the know (Gary Davis, etc.) could offer would be greatly appreciated.

1. Dunno
2. Officially 16 but i have seen a 32gigs macpro so planty!
3. Good question, could very well be.
4. Not much ^^. I cannot put any direct words to that
5. Most of the current Combustion userbase is MAC based so it would be surprising if they did’nt.
6. No info yet

Sorry, I meant to ask: How much RAM can COMBUSTION use under OS X Leopard or WinXP/Vista 64?

With all due respect, you’re smoking crack. The vast majority of C* users are on Windows.

If they made Combustion 64bit today you would lose Quicktime and AE plugin support. Once a program goes 64bit all plugins and associated libraries used by the program must be 64bit. Since neither Apple, Adobe, or their 3rd party developers have gone 64bit don’t expect Combustion to go 64bit.
4. CW adds support for selective Color correction inside the operator. Also, it is a more realtime setup then the other operators.
5. Remember Leopard came out about a month ago, do you think they have had time to do any QA against the Released Version of the OS?
6. As far as I know, there haven’t been any “under the hood changes”. Along with the Colour Warper there were alot of workflow enhancements as well. Schematic View enhancements, Options to set the File input defaults, and bug fixes are part of 2008.

3ds Max and Maya offer 32 and 64 bit versions with the purchase of the application (you get both). also, toxik supports 64bit on linux and while the current build on windows is 32bit, many of us run it on 64 bit and its supported bu the mothership.

December 10, 2007 at 6:33 pm #216344xuefeng xuParticipantThanks for the info Gary. I know that Autodesk does support 64bit, didn’t know Toxik does since its specs and system requirements are a little cryptic. I just believe that Combustion is tied to tightly to other development platforms that are currently only 32bit. Since there is no public Combustion SDK 3rd party developers can’t make 64bit plugins, without 64bit plugins you can’t run them in a 64bit host application. Same problem with Quicktime, until Apple makes a 64bit SDK/libraries Autodesk can’t make plugins to deal with QuickTime in a 64bit application.
With a 32bit application in a 64bit OS you get a maximum of 4gb of ram versus the 32bit/32bit default of 2gb of ram.
