I have dpx image sequences that are 32 bit depth, and I need to render them out in some format that is 32 bit still into fusion. (preferably open exr. dpx. cin, or sgi) But nothing seems to work the only real option I get are open exr or sgi, but sgi float out of combustion into fusion looks all messed up and shows as 8 bit int. the open exr color is off and looks like a log to lin issue. but both look okay when brought back into combustion.

Combustion can handle dpx files with out any problems. What are you doing to the files inside of combustion and how are you rendering them?

When you render your dpx files set the bit depth to 10. That’s 10bits per channel.

A tip for using combustion and log files. Do not set your preferences to automatically convert your files to linear colorspace. Use a bit depth converter and do it manually if you need to do it at all. Basically if you keep your files in log space and can work with them that way then render them without any color conversion they should look fine in any application.

Mind you that every app is going to have a different LUT at play when displaying your footage. I have found that the combustion lut is very good when you have a calibrated monitor.

I wrote a tut on handing log files in combustion on the creative cow a couple years back it may still be there if you do a search.

I am painting out tracking markers, and thats it and just rendering them back out. But DPX only gives me the option of 10bit out but these DPX files I am working on are supposedly 32bit files and the company doesn’t want to lose color info but i can’t seem to find an alternative. Maybe the the files aren’t really 32 bit i am not sure cause I tried a Open exr file that was 32 bit and rendered it back out as float open exr and it showed up in fusions as 32 bit, but dpx render out as open exer float showed 16 bit. I hope that makes sense.
