has anybody been able to render a nice smooth z-blur from flame’s 3D blur node a CG depth pass? it never wants to work for me. getting bad edges, and a seemingly incorrect, extremely unpredictable DOF. I’m on 2010 SP3.

i’ve only used it as a basic defocus and I love it for that. I do know on that end of things if you leave the Blur Render Mode on “fast” that it can be steppy at sub-pixel values.

Can you post up some files so I can see what you’re talking about?

I’ve never seen anything do a good z-blur/rack firsthand, and I’m somewhat ready to give up on them.

I believe this was fixed in 2010ext1, although there is a trade off…. It renders very slowly, I put the 3D blur node doen as a ‘Beta’ Node as sapphire has had good Z-Blur and renders alot faster.

Just on the speed of the render, we had a three minute render blow out to 16min.

    cb.
