Hi, whats the best file format for importing into smoke (6.7/Tezero)? the material is HD 25p rendered out of Combustion. Was thinking of QT PNG but not sure if this is going to be painfully slow or is there a better option?
July 1, 2005 at 12:56 pm #210245BKMParticipantAs far as importing in to smoke… I am not sure that QT PNG is supported.
QT uncompressesd/Animation I imagine would be your best in quality would it not? But your movie size might be too large. Check the export options in Smoke and look at the QT codecs… then pick one of those to encode with.
Without knowing how much you need to import… QT imports very fast on my Oct2 with short 10-30sec clips with alpha breakout.
.Tiff / .Tga sequece might be good as well if you don’t have audio.
July 1, 2005 at 1:36 pm #210242BergMeisterParticipantI used QT uncompressed to get the files of the smoke, but sadly its about 40gb having to be transfered through 100mbit network… 😯

cheers

cheers

Support for Apple Final Cut Pro XML format
Wiretap 1.5 support; this API lets 3rd party developers integrate into their applications the ability to read/write StoneFS-compatible clips to/from a Autodesk® Stone® Direct disk array
Dual Link HSDL Support (Smoke DI only)
2K data sent 4:2:2 on one link and 0:2:2 on second link
2K data via video I/O subsystemFrom http://www4.discreet.com/smoke/smoke.php?id=174
Now how and if it works… I’m not sure. Still running 6.5. And I use AE.
July 1, 2005 at 7:34 pm #210250CTproductionsParticipantWell….. a few answers for u:
1: The fastest way, right now, is to use targa image sequences…. this will be much faster than a quicktime file
2: smoke 6.7 DOES have wiretap but that does you no good right now… WHY? Creative Technology’s wiretap software (product name still under consideration) has not been released yet… Look for us at NAB post (we’ll probably have a booth)…
CT’s software allows you to browse your stones, send clips of any format to your stones, and retreive clips of any format/to any format…… all from a pc or mac….it even allows you to make soft edits using clips on the stones
We’re using it right now internally on all of our flames and smokes… including our beta systems…. The ability to quickly and reliably transfer material back and forth to and from our stones using a pc or mac is unbeleivably convenient! It’s awesome…. and it all happens at the full speed of your network and disks
our product is going to be MUCH less expensive than something like xstoner…. much more reliable, much more extensive, and much faster
like I said, look for us at nab post this fall, or contact me (adam berk) for further info/news

Have got version 7 on the box as well but it seemd too unstable to use yet. Nice superimposed master keyer thoug…
July 1, 2005 at 7:54 pm #210248BKMParticipantSo how does CT’s wiretap and Wiretap from Discreet differ? Or are they the same? Confused.

July 1, 2005 at 7:54 pm #210244BergMeisterParticipanterrrm… nice superimposed master CC, that was 😕
July 1, 2005 at 8:03 pm #210251CTproductionsParticipantOur software uses the discreet wiretap protocol…… Discreet doesn’t actually have any software that allows you to import clips to your stones over wiretap… with cleaner you can export from your smoke/flame/inferno/fire/flint to a pc using wiretap…. but cleaner is slow and doesnt always give the best quality…and again, it doesnt let you import TO the stone, and it definitely doesnt have any editing capability
with the editing functions of our application, you can automate versioning, etc from a pc w/o tying up the suite or transferring any material through the network, it all stays right on the stone
July 1, 2005 at 8:24 pm #210249BKMParticipantsorry to hijack this thread….
what is CT’s web site… As google gives me way too many things and there are alot of Creative Technologies.
Didn’t know that someone was alreay incorporating WIRETAP into anything. However, I still think I was told that Combustion 4 can see the stones with wiretap. But that was like the only software that can atm.

July 1, 2005 at 8:33 pm #210252CTproductionsParticipantour site hasn’t been updated in literally years…. we’re working on that right now…. as of right now, the old reel is up there too, SO DONT LAUGH TOO HARD!!! haha 😉
July 2, 2005 at 7:15 pm #210239higginba_vbParticipanti’d just like to jump in and say that from my experience, .SGI sequences import and export the fastest. they’re WAY faster than .TGA, .TIF, and .IFF. your mileage may vary, but that’s what i’ve seen!
