Does anyone know if the new 2008 software will be Linux only? If not is this the last release for unix?
September 13, 2007 at 9:28 pm #216123pixelmonkParticipantIs it such a bad thing? You have to admit the time has come to move on, Linux is faster and cheaper and the SGI boxes have had one helluva a long run.

It remains to be seen if this is the last release.

September 14, 2007 at 5:34 pm #216135Johnny FeganParticipantWhat about an Octane2?
September 14, 2007 at 10:29 pm #216127IsaacParticipantoctane 2 is history. no 2008. octane platform came out in ’96… maybe as late as ’98. that’s a long time for a computer. alas it’s time to put those out to pasture though….
September 14, 2007 at 10:36 pm #216122tscholtonParticipantI was curious about Octane dates… if you can trust wikipedia:
SGI withdrew the Octane2 from the price book on May 26 2004, and ceased Octane2 production on June 25th, 2004. Support for the Octane2 will be withdrawn in June 2009.They are referring to SGI support.

Come on, nobody could have paid that much for an inferno in the last few years… And it is the software license, not the hardware. Now think that, you upgrade your onyx350 hardware for around $60k, to a much faster model.
And I heard that, 2008 is going to be the last version that will work on sgi!September 17, 2007 at 4:08 am #216132Saran SirikasamsapParticipantahem…the price IS different in different regions around the world…a new flame Linux in the gulf costs 290kUSD, in Singapore 160kUSD and im sure its WAY cheaper in north America.
October 15, 2007 at 4:52 am #216136om prakashParticipanti only know that it is still available for IRIX on Tezro

Perhaps 2008 will be the last version that will run on tezro, and we should be happy about this. I hope then, AME will move to new opengl techniques like pixel shaders. Dropping the old sgi platform will open new room for improvement in software.
