    Hi,

I am working in a OFFLINE project on a Final Cut station and there are some motions and composes in my sequences that I need to export to a Inferno station. I never be close an Inferno, so I wish to know if I could export my motion effects sequences using the XML feature. All the pictures used in the project came from Super 16 negatives.

I know I will have to do the pull list first, and than, that bit of filme have to be telecined again to HD, and blah, blah, blah. It is OK for me.

What I still don’t know too is if is possible, using Spirit (the telecine machine), retelecine from Super 16 to HD with the same timecodes of the DVs used to edit on Final Cut. Are you understanding my poor english? And so, I wish to know if Inferno can read the XML files.

    Thanks a lot!
    Sorry about my poor,poor english.

You are lucky because I actually have been in the same siuation as your are.
The best way to do this is to export an image sequence from FCP and load it on the inferno. You can export these images in different formats being the 2 best ones, Cineon and TIFF. Inferno works with both. If you use TIFF be sure that the pixel order is in PC mode and not Macintosh, because inferno won’t recognize them.
Yo can also use TARGA or JPEG. Remember that inferno doesn’t work with Quicktime so don’t try it.

If you are not very good with your English, I can help you in spanish if that is easier for you.

Good luck with your project! ❗

Also to be noted, On Inferno v.4 the Alpha Channels in TARGA files sometimes failed to be recognize, if you have this problem use TIFF. I don’t know what is tyhe situation in version 5

Thanks for the tip. I am still thinking about this project. So, if I export an image sequence from my FCP project, I willl have an OFFLINE sequence to be imported like e reference image on Inferno, and this is great. It will be very useful to redo and check all the motion effects. But I was thinking too if there is a way to export all the DATA reference, like the motions, paths, scales and whatever from my OFFLINE FCP project to Inferno. But I think it’s still a dream…

Well….not now, but maybe in the future. Discreet announced support for Final Cut Pro XML files — but who knows what that means. There are so many technical issues in dealing with converting effects back and forth between products (just take color space, for instance) that this has always been a problem.

Hopefully, we’ll see more development in the AAF and XML arena than we’ve seen in OMF.
