Does anybody knows if Furnace 2 will be released for Flame?
March 9, 2005 at 10:20 pm #209528John MontgomeryKeymasterThe last time I spoke with the folks at The Foundry, they said it was going to be released for flame — just a bit later than the initial release.
March 10, 2005 at 7:59 pm #209534MartincitoParticipantI’d like to buy Furnace but I don’t want to ask money again to my boss to pay the upgrade to version 2. They released this version for shake 6 months ago.
March 10, 2005 at 11:59 pm #209530AnonymousGuestI would look to NAB as a sensible time frame for Furnace 2 on discreet.
There is a lot of interest in Furnace- when we have real news we’ll publish it

But if anyone at the Foundry is listening, a timing curve in the Animation window wold be great. Because when you bring in a clip that you want to go at 400% it starts the clip a frame 4 not frame 1. You cn always ghetto in four frames of black at the head of your clip but this gets more difficult at speeds like 346.28%.
Overall a lovely, and very usefull tool.

On the topic of the timing curve – there are a number of usability issues we’d like to look at before the next release. The 400% starting at frame 4 sounds like a bug to me. I’ll have a look. But, that aside, can’t you set the first popup to “Timing:Frame” and animate the Frame curve in the Animation window to get the effect you want? Or have I misunderstood?

But when you have to pull out the 3/2 and have a curve with 4 or 5 points on it, the whole process become a little more needle in the haystack. Or worse yet I have to do math, and I get severe tired-head and pass out in fornt of the client.

The Foundry will be showing it on their stand at the show, and even better, will be taking orders, with the added incentive that if you visit The Foundry at NAB, with every purchase of Furnace on Discreet you get a free Tinder.

here is a nice trick for all this funky TW curves with 4 or 5 points on it.
Remove the pull-down of your online material (if needed). Film compress accordingly (if needed) the corresponding reference shot from the work print. Bring them to Action ( one as back, the other as front) Make a split screen with crop. Then using the expression for slipping clips using a value from control axis, for example position.x ( extremely useful expression that can be found on this web page in tips and tricks section) so using this expression with Auto Key ON match both clips. What you are basically doing is remapping the frames over time. Than go to channel view and copy the curve of used position.x. Go to Kronos and change “Timing:Speed†to “Timing:FrameÂâ€. Go to channel view, select Frame channel and paste the curve. Expand the duration of frames Kronos will render as needed. This works as well for matching the speed of shots with Pan or whatever movement that were not made with Motion Control.
I hope that I was able to explain it understandably. It’s a bit late ;( and not enough brain cells agree with me that I’m not sleeping ;(
btw. You can use more or less the same workflow with TW module as well.

P.S. Mike, if all this makes any sense may be we can add it in Tips and Tricks section?
