FX/Broadcast associations memberships

I am seeking information on what associations are the best for us to join. I’m looking at:
ITVA
BDA
SMPTE(nobody has responded to me)
NAB

I’m a VFX artist(2D comp/CGI/ProcMatte). I’m also skilled in lighting design(esp bluescreen), cinematography and sound design.

I would rank the associations based on:
1) Interactivity and ability for me to share with others.

2) Quality of the members; not so much skill as dedication to the INDUSTRY, not just to THEIR work.

3) Medical Benifits; I REALLY need to have benifits. Even though I take REALLY good care of myself skating some 22+ miles and eating/sleeping/living well…I’m human, and things happen!

I would REALLY like to join the Visual Effects society NOW rather than later as I KNOW I will, but I don’t have people to vouch for me, and may not have enough experience. However I may just give it a shot anyway. The VFS can greatly benifit from my membership, but I have to prove that. I am a guy that knows no limits in what I can acomplish with dedication, discipline and sincerity…so I may give them a shot, but just in case, I need to know what the best alternatives are.
