    Hello everyone,
Soon I will be getting the educational version of Combustion 3. There may be a higher end Discreet system in my future but for now I figure learning Combustion would be a good way to get familliar with the Discreet products. Anyone care to share their experiences with learning Combustion? I currently use AfterEffects & Motion for compositing and graphics so I have a basic knowledge to build on. Am I right in thinking that learning Combustion would help with learning other Discreet products?
    Thanks in advance 8)

well, I can only say, ‘come to the combustion side and the power will be with you’ 🙂
more seriously, it is always good to know more than just one workflow methodoligy. so, learning your way around other comp software is to your own benefit. not knowing discreets systems myself, but from what i’ve heard from others, i wouldn’t hold my breath in thinking that knowing combustion would give me a great advantage in learning discreets systems. one advantage might be, that the interface looks somewhat familiar. the second advantage,i’d say, lays in the fact that after you’ve learnd combustion, learning a third comp software isn’t as hard anymore.
that’s because, your mind is already “freed” to adapt to other workflows.
if you ask me for a tip, how to make an easy transition from ae to combustion, i’d say, that you better forget ‘how’ you did it in ae and concentrate more on ‘why’ you did certain things. kind of taking a step back, not thinking what steps were needed to achieve a certain effect in ae, but better think of what are the elements the effect is made of and then try to “translate” that into “combustion language”.
what else? do the tuts… :o) and there’s also a pdf which is meant to help former ae user to get to know combustion.

Thanks for the reply 😀 I’ve been working with the 30 day trial version of Combustion and the downloadable tutorials and wow I like Combustion!!!!!
I can’t wait to get deeper into it.

well, you will get to work with several tools that are the same as in the big discreet-systems. Like the keyer (ok, there is no modular or masterkeyer inC*…) the color-corrector (ok, no color warper), garbage masks, tracker/stabilizer…. Also the transform is similar to the “axis” in FFI.
    have fun,

I’m really liking Combustion! The only thing that is confusing me is sometimes I adjust some parameter (like scale) and nothing happens because the layer I want to work on is not loaded into the viewport. Still just finding my way around but loving it! The color corrector is awesome!!!
