    NUKE is interesting… at first its rather intimidating…. BUT as you get on with it you see some of its logic.

    My list is:

    Extended Bicubics
    3d displacements
    Subdivisions
    3d camera like “flames action”
    .fbx support
    (if i can export .fbx… i can render in mental ray)

    ALSO

    a “bins” directory like either piranha or fusion.

    Better file browsing would also be nice.

    I havent tried audio support, but it would be nice for syncing.
    (But since there is no timeline, i guess that wont happen)

    I am just curious. First, could you please explain to me for what do you want using Subdivisions in composite app? (Maybe I dont understand you right). Second, I dont see point of rendering something from Nuke in Mental Ray. Can you explain me this, please. Thanks.

    First of all, thanks for asking 🙂

    You need to be able to subdivide a 3d displacement in order to get a better smoother output. If i wanted to change the lighting of an object slightly, and it is already baked into the footage, I can add displacement and my own lights to help change the light source direction.

    (You can do all of this in flame, and its a good thing)

    Mental ray would be nice since it has 3d intergration… as it gets better… rendering needs will be in more demand.

    why not add GI or caustics via a 3d card object?

    I have already seen a need for it in a project i am screwing around with now.

    (Before you say, just go and use maya)

    Why should i go and use maya if its already intergrated into the comp app?

    There WILL be a comp app with mental ray intergration within 1.5 years.

    I KNOW this.

    OK. Thanks for explanation. You are probably right. From my (slightly conservative) point of view this features might be useful in 1% of comp work in general. Our compositors spent much more time in doing cc, garbage mates and keys. Its even more significant when it comes to film work.
    BUT, Nuke is really nice app and very modular too. NDK is there so its a matter of time when someone will write even more specialized feature “node” than you described.
