I know this have been up many times before, but I am going to work, as freelancer and I want to know a good configuration of a workstation there is u.t.d. (also witch Graphic card)
Well when I am scrolling around in the post I see that people says that a SGI Tezro is at a prise of about 5-7000$ seriouslyÂ… I donÂ’t believe thatÂ… is it true? IÂ’d guess that an extra 0 behind the number would make it.
I like making my own machines so I know whatÂ’s behind the shell but dose it pay off to buy a machine like BOXÂ….
October 28, 2004 at 9:30 am #208900lucParticipanthello, take a seat ot gone a hurt
– flint 75 000$
– a tezro running flame is arround 200 000$
– inferno 1 000 000$the sgi machine cost this prices because of the frameStore. 6 terrabyte of fiber channel drives cost the big prices. The brand is for something too…
and a good pc is about 7000 to 10 000$ + softwares. But you dont have the same speed and size of raid. For the same quality of raid you can paid + 35 000$ just for your raid.
What you pay is what you get… But the thing is, the session of flame cost about 600 to 1000$ / hour.
your choice ?
October 28, 2004 at 3:32 pm #208916malu05_vbParticipantwell i know what it costs
Flint : 41000 $ (my offer from http://www.kinovox.dk)
Flame: 300000 $ (my offer from http://www.kinovox.dk)
Inferno: 600000 (My offer from http://www.kinovox.dk)
But what about the machine…
October 29, 2004 at 12:15 am #208899John MontgomeryKeymasterWell…the machine is dependent upon the software. For the new 6/9 discreet effects releases:
flint runs on a linux IBM workstation or Octane2 V10
flame runs on Tezro, Octane MXI/MXE, and Octane2 V12
inferno runs on Onyx2, Onyx3200 and Onyx350If you only need to run in 8-bits, I’d take a serious look at flint….its pretty impressive
December 8, 2004 at 8:07 pm #208901AnonymousInactiveAs far as I know, when you are quoted the price of a flame you are quoted the cost w/ the machine included.
December 9, 2004 at 10:12 am #208915malu05_vbParticipantwell whats the prize for a Octane2 V12?….. got to know!
December 10, 2004 at 9:17 am #208908AnonymousInactivemalu05 wrote:well whats the prize for a Octane2 V12?….. got to know!well, it’s not sold anymore but you can get some very cheap ones from ebay.
or look at http://www.sgi.com/products/remarketed/December 10, 2004 at 8:16 pm #208902eltopoParticipantWell I have seen on ebay a Flame9 system for around $150,000 and even an inferno for about $350,000. About the hardware you can get an Octane2 V12 for around $800 (I didn’t miss a zero) and an octane MXE for around $350. It seems a lot of companies are selling their sgi systems these days…
