    Hi!
I grabed an hdv video from a canon XH A1 in Premiere Pro and would like to use this in Combustion. Now I realized that Combustion can’t work with mpeg. How can I use my footage with combustion?

it can, well, sort of. but to make it short:
first, it isn’t a good idea to work with mpeg compression in any compositing program (this doesn’t help you in any respect, ’cause you already have the footage in such a format) and second, combustion handles a mpeg-stream very slow, damned slow, that is!
fastest way to work between ae/premiere and c* is to convert your mpeg stream into an image sequence and work with that. render out uncompressed qt or stick to the image sequence, depending on what you want to do further.

    Hi!
Thanks for your answer, is there any other way to capture an hdv avi in premiere? I guess no.
I’m a bit afraid of the amount of Data of HD image sequences, but I’ll give that a try.
But how have you worked with mpgs in combustion at all, I even couldn’t import it?

it may be that it was an *.m2t format…anyway, it worked in that instance just by renaming the extention into *.mov.
regarding storage space, c’mon drives aren’t that expensive anymore 😉

You can’t capture HDV to a file format in Premiere which Combustion can read, so you’ll have to convert it to something. You can render to uncompressed which takes up a lot of space. I generally render to Matrox’s MPEG2 I frame at 100Mbps, which gives good results. I don’t know what software codecs you have available, but that might be a good option.

I agree that HDV isn’t ideal for compositing, but if the alternative is standard definition, I’d take HDV for compositing without question.

Combustion deals with1.33 pixel aspect ratio kind of weirdly, but there are workarounds.
