hello all
i am working in C4, on D5 keyed footage, and it is at the 99.5% complete stage, almost ready to render and the masks have decided to go awol.
my last 4 versions of this shot have also had huge mask bugs, and this comp i rebuilt from the ground up, hoping to escape them… i have almost had success with nesting offending layers and adding additional masks to the nest, but now i need to edit existing points inside the nest.
currently i have to select a point and throw it as far as i can in the direction i need it to go, then with a bit of luck i m-i-g-h-t be able to get c-l-o-s-e to the point i need to be at, but mostly it moves independently of my pen. **mess** multiply by many points per frame, many masks per frame, many frames per layer…
i’m now at the hair pulling stage.
anyone have any ways to fix/get around??? not enough time to rebuild YET AGAIN…

Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments, save/export again and import back into your original composite. I’ve found this to be the best way to work on splines that are nested deep inside complex setups. If nothing else, the points are more responsive and seem less likely to misbehave.

Make sure you’ve downloaded the latest c4 patch (4.1.3 I think) It resolves a stack of “issues” if you’re working with 10bit material.cheers

i have the patch for 4.0.3 (windows) and it doesnt fix the mask problems. they seem to be random, and i have worked in many other comps with no problems… usually when it occurs, it is early enough into a setup to dump and redo from scratch, but this time it is right at the end… very frustrating indeed.
i’m going to try exporting and re-importing (as mark suggested), and failing that, i think i will try painting over the offending areas (if i can work out how to do that) from a duplicate layer…
any other suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

I have seen it many times.
Make sure your comp and footage frame rates are set to the same thing.
If these 2 things are not the same the mask points will go crazy becouse the keyframes cant be put on a even frame point.
hope this helps

thanks for posting this bit of info: it has made the sun shine again…(and i did try exporting the mask info into another comp, but of course the bugs followed, which makes sense if it is the frame rate)
