I have a 3+ minute short with 28 clips, all of which need major motion stabilization. Uncle Charlie really had the shakes as he panned and zoomed. The final version has the clips crossfading into each other, but I rendered a version with each clip separated by 2 seconds of black, thinking that I could use the Tracker to motion stabilize each clip.
For example, a couple is walking down the aisle past the camera position. Uncle Charley pans to follow them. I can’t find three points in the background that stay in the clip the entire duration. The walking couple is continuously in the shot, but if I choose three points on one of them, won’t the stabilizer iron out their walking movements?
Any suggestions or recommendations for a workflow or strategy resulting in rock solid pans and zooms?
thanks,

During the shot you should be able to change the tracking point. Say for example, after 80 frames your original tracking point goes out of frame, you should be able to add another point starting from the 80th frame. Bear in mind that the second point should be at the same depth or height or has the same overall movement.
Another thing you could do is track the actors, then remove the jitter keeping the overall panning motion but getting rid of the small jumps. You could also scale the tracking data to keep some of the natural sways.
I hope these help…
