Hi. We’re using shake 3.5 on linux which is working great for out video compositing. However, we have a need to composite a series of stills within a video – most of which need some histogram equalization to sort out screwed dynamic ranges.

I could do this manually in a image processing app first but was wondering whether anyone knows if shake can do histogram equalization over frames.

I have had some success with the LogLin color tool but obviously this has an adverse affect on the stills that dont need modification. A histogram eq would behave well on all images.

Maybe I’ll just preprocess them in gimp or phshp.

One futher thing – with a series of numbered stills, is there an easy way to build in transitions between the frames like a slideshow?

Trying to figure out what you mean by histogram equalization.. Do you mean your stills are different color values (like shot too bright or too dark), and you need a curve that you can adjust to match another still? You could try the Lookup tool, which has separate curves for RGB.. You can also try the AniLookup tool off of highend2d, which gives an animated Lookup which might be what you’re looking for..

To answer your other question, if you bring in a still image, you can set the time in and out, overlapping the times of your images, and doing your transition during the overlap.

Hope that steers you in the right direction!

Thanks. Totally forgot about posting this to this thread! It was sorted out a while ago now. Using pretty much what you suggested. We preprocessed some of the over/under-exposed stills then used the time-stretching technique to blend between stills. Cheers again.
