Hi guys,
My question may seem pretty basic, but I have no previous experience working with LUTs.
We got the footage in DPX, it’s in REDLog colorspace. The footage hasn’t been color-graded yet, but I’ve the right LUT for REDLog, so the picture looks OK.
I didn’t find the “viewing LUT” or “monitoring LUT” option in Flint. Is it hidden somewhere or it simply doesn’t exist? How do you usually work with LUTs?
Thanks,
pH.

flame 2009 has a LUT page in the prefs.

If that’s true, that’s a wicked tricky way to cripple the system.
Time to fire up the CC Curves and hope for the best!

“Film Tools
* Import standard color lookup tables (LUTs) or create your own using the intuitive tools provided.
* Grain management tools match the grain of different film stocks and maintain homogenous grain across disparate elements used in the composite (such as computer generated imagery and scans from different film types).
* Tools for sampling, removing, and applying grain independently on each color channel. “So it would seem that it SHOULD support LUT’s

Flint supports LUTs. There is a LUT node in Batch and works perfectly, I can apply LUT at importing etc., but these are processing LUTs.
Now I retouch log pictures and at the end I always check the result with processing LUT. But this just takes too long and doesn’t feel very professional.:)How do you usually do this?
@jayrandall: thanks, I will check it out on Flint, we have 2009 ext. something, maybe 2pH.
August 16, 2009 at 5:23 pm #218146Martin KrolParticipantYeah Flint should have the LUT node/module, but doesn’t have the viewer LUT system. Flame and Smoke2K have the ability to apply a 3D LUT to the viewer and allow you to switch it on and off at any time with a hotkey.
August 16, 2009 at 5:53 pm #218148AnonymousInactivepH,
I am sitting in front of a Flint 2009 sp3 system right now. Go into prefs. Look for the LUTs page. Voila.
Pre IFFS 2009, there were “monitor LUTs” that came already configured for 2.22 Gamma and 1.0 Gamma (Ctrl-Shift2 and 1, respectively).
Post 2009, there are no such things as “monitor LUTs.” You now must explicitly setup a 1D LUT to replicate the so-called “monitor LUTs” of years passed.
So, where there is a value field next to each 1D LUT hotkey in the Prefs, type in a Value of 1.00 for the first hotkey, and 2.22 in the second hotkey. For giggles, chuck in a .4545 in the third hotkey position.
Now you have 1D LUTs setup that replicate how the old system used to do it.
good luck..

August 16, 2009 at 5:55 pm #218149AnonymousInactiveincorrect. Flint does support 1D and 3D luts. Im on one right now. Flame 2009 sp3.
August 26, 2009 at 4:23 pm #218143shannones ridersParticipantI had a little time to read the manual and go through the preferences.
Unfortunately I can’t attach any pictures and I can’t show you the preferences I see, I simply didn’t find the LUT settings in the Preferences. We have 2009 sp2.
If you’re in the player and push the View button, I can see the dummy space (greyed out) form viewing LUTs, but no more.I found this on p. 719 in the manual :
“Depending on whether you are processing your clips with the LUTs or just
using them for viewing purposes, you perform one or more of the following
steps.Step:
1. Import a 1D LUT created in an out-
side application.2. Process clips with 1D LUTs on im-
port or export.3. Process clips with 1D LUTs from the
LUT Editor accessed from the Desktop
or in Batch.”I think this means that Flint supports processing LUTs only.
Did I mention that I hate the manual, I always have to read between the lines if I’m looking for a feature that doesn’t exist. Why can’t it be put clearly on the paper, “hey Flint doesn’t support viewing LUTs”.August 27, 2009 at 2:20 pm #218150AnonymousInactivecrap. can’t type. flint 2009 x1 sp4
December 16, 2009 at 5:45 pm #218144shannones ridersParticipantThe problem is solved. We’ve just installed 2010 ext.1.
LUTs work perfectly. If interested how, go to the flame tutorials:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8260649&linkID=9241736Watch the new features in 2009 ext.1./Flame Workflow&Productivity Tools/Viewer enhancements
We simply didn’t have 2009 ext.1 before.
Thanks for all help guys!
