Dear Colleagues
I’ve seen a big storm on the sea with high waves in 2 recent Harry Potter movies and Pirates of the Caribbean, and have seen progress in the trailer of the movie 2012 when a large wave exceeds a mountain, I want to achieve and compose the animation of a big storm on the sea with huge waves and sparkle to break an object, stones, etc etc, If any of you working in a VFX company and knows this technique, would be of great help to many animatorsI saw the making off as the company DIGITAL DOMAIN performed the visual effects scenes, but does not explain the step by step from the scene, thanks for the help

Effects you see in movies are made by studios that have an army of programmers working in the R&D department, developing new tools just for one particular scene! It’s usually combination of dynamics and particle simulation and their in-house tools that we mortals will probably never see or use.

From what I know, guys at ILM worked 6 months just for this giant wave shot for “Perfect Storm”.
