Hi, I have a basic question – If you are using layers in the timeline, can you use the keyer while in the timeline? Can you draw a mask in one layer to reveal items in the lower layers? Sorry this is a low level question, my skill are not great. I just want to know if I must use DVE (or the keyer) or if I can use the timeline soft effects. Thanks for the Help!

Yup, it’s just hidden in another effect. Put an Axis soft-effect on your timeline clip, and then enter the full Axis module by hitting the “E” button right next to the “Axis” button. Once you’re in there you’ll see a “Keyer” button at the bottom of the screen. At that point you’ll be taken into the Keyer module where you can do all your keying, roto, and garbage masking.

Also, if you just need to do a mask on your video, you can use the WIPE soft efx. It is less system intensive than going into AXIS/KEYER/MASK.
