LIDAR Scanning, 3D Set Digitization, etc

hi all-

(my first post) i’ve been searching for information on LIDAR scanning for set digitization all day. although i think i have come close, i have not been able to answer a few *burning* questions. i came across this site and i am hoping that someone here has the answers or knows of a good place to look.

this article (http://www.fxguide.com/article114.html) mentions Pixel Magic’s use of LIDAR scanning for set digitization.

1) did Pixel Magic do the actual LIDAR scanning or did they use a provider?
2) if so, what hardware did they use?
3) if not, who was the provider?
4) what companies provide LIDAR scanning services and specialize in set digitization?
5) what are the competing technologies for set digitization?

any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
