Hey folks,
We are outputting a bunch of log DPX files for a film out for some work my company is doing. All the work is being done in Nuke but we would like to do a last look at it on our flames before we send it out.
The problem I am running into is that none of our flame artists seem entirely certain of the best/proper way to intake this stuff to check. When we import the DPX log files straight, they obviously look blown out, like i would expect. But if i use the 1d lut loglin conversion on import, everything looks waaaaaaay crushed out and dark. We have sent a couple of sequences over for them to check, and they say they are fine, but i would love to be able for us to get a good look at this stuff before it leaves.
Any thoughts?

I would suggest that you create ones that give a pretty good estimation of what your shots will like once they have been printed.Paul

What’s the crack wth FilmVis these days, has that gone from the current releases? I assume you can load one of the Lustre Colour Management cubes to achieve the same thing – import the shots with no LUT, then load one of the display/Kodak 2383 3D LUTs in the viewer…
I’d be interested to hear from anyone at Hydraulx or Peerless or whoever is doing film on Flames these days – are the Lustre 3D LUTs good enough or are you using Truelight boxes or something custom? Anyone working in 16 bit float yet?

The other thing I would recommend would be to use a viewingLut rather than converting the file from Log/Lin then back.

We’re still using our inhouse 1D LUT’s on the Flame/Inferno for log/lin conversions and I have a range of display LUT’s that I use, for checking whites/blacks and for giving an estimation of what the shots will look like on film.Paul
