Any ideas on how, a mask peeling off of person’s face to reveal another face, effect should be shot?
I was considering shooting a silicon mask with a green mask under it. But how about the hand holding the mask, should it all be shot seperately?
Some brainstorming needed…
Thanks

1000 VoltHere’s how we have done it in the past. Make a silicon mask resembling the first persons face as close as possible. Put that mask on the second actor that will perform the peel. The easy way to do it is to let the arm and hand grab the lower part of the mask and drag it upwards so the arm and hand crosses the face… this will give you a natural wipe to reveal the face behind. On top of this film the first actor in the same lighting conditions (with greenscreen if you like). Use this plate to warp on top of the peeling silicon mask to improve the look of it. Warp and track little bits and pieces. Extended bicubics will be your best friend. Use the shadows and distortions from the mask.
This is the quick and dirty version I guess. If you don’t want the arm to cross the face I’m not sure this is the way to go. Then you’ll probably need some kind of 3d solution, instead of the 2d ext bicubics way to go.Good luck,
