Hi.
I’m running tests between Boujou and Matchmover on a short film.
Thought the two softwre seemto be greatly efficient, there is one very specific issue that seems to make them very different : nodal pan.
WhileMatchmover (V.2.5 here) focuses on rebuilding 3d points at all costs, with the very handy “other-point-of-view stills importer”, Boujou has it’s unique “Nodal Pan” mode, considering all points to be at infinite distance from cam, and only tracking rotation andlens distortion.
Ok.
From what I’ve discovered, it is not possible for Matchmover to enable such a mode, meaning it’s not possible to track a simple pan with no extra info (paralax, 3d mesurements, etc…). Am I completely wrong ?
I’m working on very grainy footage of a huge area, with irregular pan speed, sometimes very fast (desert shots ==> low detail, motion blur, fil grain, etc…). Boujou’s auto tracker easly gets lost, not speaking of the manual tracking, far to limited in such an extreme case… I get very good manual 2d tracks with matchmover, but then again, I can’t get a good calculation.
The only solution I found to solve such a problem is to export my 2D track data from MatchMover back to boujou, converting with a simple text editor…
If so, can any decent 2D tracks be exported as “.txt” files or equivalent from any 2D paclages (Combustion, for exp.) ? Boujou only reads “.txt” as an input, and I don’t consider buying both packages in such a case… Hehe.
Ok, long post, but thanks for reading it.Does anyone know if this is the only way to do so ?…

I’ll give you ffedback in realtime…March 23, 2004 at 11:51 am #207824AnonymousInactiveIf it is a solid track you need and 3D is not the issue you might want to try mokey, they do a demo version http://www.mokey.com.

As for 2D tracks (up to affine model) it’s the best: grainy footage is its favorite subject.May 5, 2004 at 12:14 am #207821Diogo GirondiParticipantIf I’m not mistaken, in Match Mover you set the type oo shot when you load your sequence, but haven’t test it that much so I might be wrong.
I’ve ordered a demo of v3 and I’ll take a deeper look soon.
See ya,
