Hi @all!
I hope U understand my Q….(sorry 4 the bad english):
I wanna do an effect like this: One guy cames along the street and “cross” another one (the second one ist something like a ghost).
We shot the BG with the first guy and a greenscreen with the second one in the FG.Now it would be nice, if the first one goes through the secound, if there is an effect like mercury at the intersecting bodyparts. Like a little fluid.
How would U do this? Any ideas?
Also: Any ideas are welcome to show, that this two guys are “connected” to each other….
THX & have a nice day,

September 30, 2003 at 2:58 pm #207230micknaParticipantCamera locked;
35mm -> Telecine to PAL (I must NOT! do 2k, only PAL 😀 )
Fixed focal lenght (of course)Also no Problem to shot the two guy against green and a clean BG plate…
September 30, 2003 at 4:27 pm #207227AnonymousInactiveTo me you don’t have to shot anyone in front of a Green!
More interesting result could came from the two real shot!
Begin using some cross dissolve to mix the shot then CC the result and try to use as a displace or someting like that!
You can find so many way to drive!!!
That’s just up to your mind …..(and of course your rushes!!!)
💡October 7, 2003 at 7:02 am #207225AnonymousInactiveHi Mickna
There are a number of ways to do what you want…
Here are a few ideas for you to try:You should consider using the Surface Controls to get your Layers to interact with each other. Basically, surface controls determine how layers are blended together in the composite. Use these controls to adjust the effect of lights on a layer and to create reflections between layers.
Start your job as a “3D Composite” as 2D composites don’t support multiple layers and therefore don’t have full Surface controls.
Some of the Surface Controls include: Opacity, Transfer Mode, Preserve Alpha, and Stencil Layer options. Opacity is much like a DISSOLVE and sets the transparency of a layer. A value of 100 is opaque, while a value of 0 is transparent.
The fun ones are the Transfer Modes: Here are EXCELLENT tools, as Transfer modes control how a layer is blended into the composite and how it interacts with layers behind it. There are over 20 different Transfer modes available, each offereing a different effect. Start with the SCREEN mode, as Screen combines the pixels in the current layer with the pixels in the background so that the current layer is composited over the layers in the background with lighter pixels than before. The effect is similar to the photographic technique of combining two slides in a slide “sandwich” and then reshooting them. Screen mode is the inverse of Multiply mode.
Note that for most transfer modes, portions of the layer only take on the transfer mode characteristics when another layer is directly under it, or behind it in 3D space; if there is empty space behind portions of the layer, those portions appear normal.
As for the idea of two guys who are “connected” to each other…. You can position them in 3D space and then hinge or parent them.
For the “mercurial-effect” (or something like blobby) you can try to stencil & texture map the cut-out clip of one guy: Use a clip of bubbles in a fishtank (or something like that) and try to map the video to it.
Anyway, there are MANY ways to do things. It’s YOUR job to try them out and choose the one you like best!
Keep Combusting!

Jack

THX for this RE.
However, the most thinks you suggest are not new to me…. 😆
I’m more interessted to get an idea how to realize this fluid-effect. Means the boarders of the two persons should a little “morph” into each other…If I only layer the two guys, I get a clear boarder. I can blur it, but this is not what I wanna have. I don’t know how to explain it in other words… 🙄
October 8, 2003 at 8:02 am #207224ivarParticipantwhy you didnt rotoscope around the part which should get a water type effect and then use a displacement filter with a rippling seq or a real water seq to get the intersecting part fluid ?
hope this helps if not try to use particles which looks like flames or smoke and use that as a displ. source for your rotoscoped area…
its easy you can track the smoke or flames to the persons and voiula done ….
did a similar effect for trainees here to show them, how to get that Lord of the rings ripple effect of frodo…
if you have question contact me and i can send you the footage layer by layer so you can look at it and study it 🙂
have a nice day

October 8, 2003 at 8:13 am #207232micknaParticipantHi ivar!
Again thx 🙂
I’ll send you a pm with my mailadi, ok?!Shit! The most error I did, was to talk about fluid….. I don’t wanna have ripples or somethink else. I try it again (*sniff*):
– Two persons
– The one guy attache the other (in the story it’s the same gay, but it’s the “evil” one of himselfe) and we have the original person. U know what I mean? It’s the same lieke one guy’s “bed-ego” will go out of him and talk like a ghost (but no transperency needed)
– If I simple layer the two guys, I always have a exact boarder from the front-layer. The boarder of the body of guy one (if the second layer is the bad-guy).
– It would be nice if this boarders are a little like mercurial. So they go into each other to tell the audience: Hey, this is one and the same….Shit, shit, shit! I know my english is tooooooooo bad. *umpf*
May I try to put a image up, what I mean…. 🙁October 9, 2003 at 9:29 am #207228ramParticipanthi mickna,
this is ram here,
i have read ur question, i understand that in ur composite’
even though the second guy’s image is of some conscience
u want to show the physical intraction between guy’s layers
i mean in the edges where the intraction takes place of some kind
ex-mercury type ok.now wat i would suggest is that after u extract the fore ground
i mean after keying go for edge detect and distort the edge using
various multiple 3rd party filters and again composite that to original
bg n fg u may then use different transfer modesor u can prepare a matte doing rotoscope for that area of intraction
and using that matte composite some 3d fluid effects in that area.anyway, let me know how u achieved ur effect.
take care,
Ram Cr 8)October 13, 2003 at 7:16 pm #207229micknaParticipantHi ram!
U got it!
Jep, edge detect is the keyword I think!I’ll do the composit in three or four weeks. I post an update (if I remember my posting 😕 ) and may attach an image…
THX so far to U all for the nice support!!!!!! 😀
This is the first forum (not for combustion, I also look at some maya-forums) with some really smart guys who wanna try to help……mickna
