We are doing a shooting of a miniature with a motion control camera
We are also using the motion control camera to shoot people against blue screen and later integrate them in the same miniature.
In the miniature ( scale 1/6) we have 3 typical london builings and a road . The problem is that the road has a curvature which pitches in the center of the miniature.
Maximum height difference is in the middle around 20 cm ( more or less ).
We cannot afford to build a real scale model of the road curvature and at the same time we are not allowed to change the miniatureMy question is
What would you do (either physically or digitally) to create a seamless shot with people walking on that curved road miniature ?Thanks

build yourself a simple curved ramp out of wooden bucks (plywood and 2×4’s) that peaked at 120cm (6 x 20cm…which is the estimate you gave your your scale and miniature dimenstions).
if you are shooting with a motion control camera you can also scale up the move data proportionately to make the live-action camera move match the miniature.
i’d suggest making sure you have a good, seasoned moco cameraman on this job…they will know all the ins/outs of making this datapath work.
the only hitch is that your moco rig might not be big enough to do the same move at 6x the travel (i’ve run into this before when i used to operate moco)
good luck

I know Maya and XSI can do it (don’t know about others but Im sure others can do it too)
Also there are other programs that can analize camera data and produce the formulae to be entered into a 3d app e.g.- http://www.realviz.com/ –
