Be sure to look at these carefully – if it’s the one I have used I was shocked by how the display was so bad unless you are sitting directly in the center of the screen… like a client off to one side would see a completely washed out picture. Same with someone standing behind you, seriously one sweet spot dead center.

I have the EIZO monitor, and have no idea what are you talking about, I never noticed anything like you just described

The model I have is the CE240W and I’m very happy with it.
May 18, 2007 at 6:23 pm #215364Richard DeanParticipantWe just got an Ezio monitor for eval
Jeff is correct
it looks great when straight on viewing
but when you sit next to the artist the picture gets very washed out.
I have not seen any flat panel that is nearly as god as our crt’s
I just hope they will last long enough for a decent lcd to come alongMay 29, 2007 at 11:19 am #215375Sajjadul IslamParticipantHey guys! I’m in the same situation over here. We really need to repalce the ginormous SGI/Sony monitor with an LCD. I have tested two different Sonys, 1 sasung, 1 acer and one HP. can provide modelnumber if that’s wanted… But none of them work with the Octane. =(
I have changed the display properties to 50 Hz but still no luck. Over at vfxtalk.com a nice fella said that the SGI sends syng over the green signal…? Is that so? How can i get that to work with a normal monitor?
Hope you can help me out guys =)
May 30, 2007 at 7:19 am #215376Sajjadul IslamParticipantNow I have tested a modded VGA-cable. Pin 11-15 removed so the H&V-sync won’t mess something up. The problem is that with that cable the original monitor doesn’t work either. So, what is the spec of a correct moded cable?
I read about the mod here:

If you cut the H and V lines and it still doesn’t work I’d say your screens definitely don’t support sync on green. Some do, some just flat out don’t. There are/were sync convertor boxes available which convert an SOG signal from the Octane into a normal RGBHV one but they were fairly pricey.
Some LCDs do support it even when they don’t mention it… I have a Dell 2005FPW which definitely does, but it’s 60hz only which is pain for Flame 🙂
Honestly, it’s really hard to find a good LCD…
May 30, 2007 at 8:55 am #215377Sajjadul IslamParticipantThis is a bit embaressing… The power from the KVM-extdener had sliped out. So the cable do work.
The problem is that as soon as i start a PAL or NTSC project in the FLAME and it adjusts the screen I loose sync and picture. =(

The problem is that if you don’t use those genlocked modes (for instance, you use “Hires 60Hz” or “Hires 50Hz”), then the field dominance on the output of the OCTANE Digital Video card will flip randomly, which makes it hard to playback interlaced material to the broadcast monitor (output to VTR takes a different path and is not affected).
So if you can live with that (and are not too worried about losing audio/video sync during long playbacks), you could try configuration your NTSC/PAL project config files with “Hires 60Hz” / “Hires 50Hz”, and that might make your monitor happier.
Also, keep in mind that most LCD panels will resample all incoming signals to 60Hz, which makes for pretty awful motion rendition when working at 48/72 or 50Hz.

Have to try another monitor to since this one has some discolorations, almost looks like some magnet would be nearby. Must be something with my cable or settings.
