    Hi,

I’m working on 720p footage filmed with a Panasonic HVX200 (DVCPRO HD). The footage was captured on a Mac using Final Cut, which provides a Mac-only DVCPRO HD codec. I’ll do my composites in Combustion/Windows, which unfortunately does not support Apple’s DVCPRO HD codec. Now I’ll have to convert all shots to Quicktime files using a PC-compatible Quicktime codec.

Which of Quicktime’s codecs is most efficient for uncompressed 720p footage?

I did some tests using TIF (Packbit) and PNG – the PNG sequence was much smaller, but I’m not sure if working with PNG isn’t much slower in Combustion. Or is there another codec I should try?

    Thanks for any help,

    jensen

I prefer just to use frames when doing any kind of visual effects work.
if you have corruption it doesnt effect the whole file.
Also for some reason many codec’s in windows and or combustion are very slow.
And i find that just using frames all the time helps the problem.

Culley’s right. Image sequences work best. PNG is good. I use that all the time at my shop.

if you must use Quicktime then may I suggest you use ANIMATION as the codec.
