I have an animation in 3ds max,
and I need to apply some motion blur to it.The problem is that because the geometry is procedural
(made by the Dreamscape plugin), I cannot use standard
multi-sample techniques – eg MaxMan > Renderman.What I need is a package that applies motion-blur,
based only upon an analyzis of the 2D pixels.I know Realviz’ Retimer is capable of this,
so if that’s the best solution I will use that one.My question is :
Are there any other packages which will do this job better ?
(..and is running on Windows ?)Any comments appreciated.

Clokkevi.

Option 1
rendering out your animation as a rpf file format, and import it into combustion. Then in combustion, apply rpf velocity. Its a motion blur effect that is based on the 3d info that max generates. But remember before you render out the rpf, you have to make sure that the velocity option is checked off in max when you are about to render the file.
Option 2
Another option, is to either use the motion blur plugin in either shake or digital fusion. I believe that the motion is acutally based on the pixel info, and doesn’t try to fake the motion blur look by taking the prvious and next frame and then drops the opacity down by half.

The rpf exporting will not work, unfortunatly,
because because the geometry is procedural;
all max “sees” is a plane with 2 polygons,
which doesn’t move – the only motion is a camera dolly in.I tried the RE:Vision MotionBlur, it was really quick, maybe *too* quick,
as there was a lot of pixels, especially near the edges of the frame,
that didn’t track properly.I ended up using a plug-in after all, though,
the REALVIZ ReTimer HD plugin for AE,
a *lot* slower than RE:Vision MotionBlur,
but it did the job as it should, and that’s what matters !With regards,
