    Hi folks,

    I need some help here..

    The shot is like this,

-One Alien is in the center of a room.
-The camera is on a circular track always pointing at the center of the room.
-There are four clones of one Female (all in different outfit) sitting/standing next to each walls. (four walls- four females-All at one time)
-The camera will rotate 360 degrees.
So now the ALien is visible all the time, and as the camera moves 360 deg. four clones of one female will be seen as passing behind the alien.

And yes I dont have Motion Control rig at my disposal.

Can anyone suggest a trick here as how to achieve that?

    thanx in advance

    here’s a quick idea:
if you can shoot the actress(es) in front of a green/blue screen ->
you could shoot one 360 degree shot/ or a 360 degree still ->
    and comp it all together

    good luck,

This shot can be done in plates and some retiming. I did a shot similar to this a couple of years back. Make sure the camera is pointed at the exact center so that the camera itself can be locked off. If there is no dialogue, have the camera run at 48fps or faster. This will help with retiming later.

First: Shoot a reference plate with stand in actors, placed where the characters will be. Time this move with a stop watch to estimate how long it takes to move around the track.

Second: Shoot a clean plate; trying to duplicate the timing for the camera move as it was in the reference plate. Put some tracking markers (1 inch square piece of red tape) where the actors will be situated.

Third: Shoot the Alien plate (I am assuming the alien is a costumed gentlemen) with two people moving around the back of the Alien with a blue or green screen (a painted piece of foam core will do fine). Make sure the screen covers the entire frame. Shoot another take with the Alien without the screen for safety. Again try to match the timing for the camera move.

Fourth: Shoot the first plate of your Clone in position one (wherever you have determined that to be). Again try to match the timing for the camera move.

Fifth: Repeat step four for all the Clone positions.

Compositing: The compositor will have to retime each plate so that they all match up, as well as stabilize each plate. Key out the blue/green screen behind the Alien and create a matte. Each shot of the clones can now be married together via wipes and some morphing if necessary.

Your final step should be to have someone around you the whole time on suicide watch.

Note: If production had the money, a scan of the actress could be taken to create a CG character that you could track into the shot after you have match moved the plates. Although, motion control would be less expensive.

    I hope this helps.
