hi everyone
Got a flint 9 2 on octane 2, and the vbob seems to be dead, no light on the rear pannel. We experience a lot of trouble with it, loss of synchro, no signal. It has always been a pain in the … , never had any problem with flint on octane, but the octane 2 with this damned vbob, often crash when you need to output video. Always need to shut down the system, and restart it again. So the card died after 3 years. And now we need to buy a new one with te same trouble of stability i suppose.
Is it really serious with that king of machine, even if flint is less expensive than flame or inferno, it’s still a very expensive solution, it should stable.
Has anyone experience the same troubles?
Does anyone know if flint is stable on linux
Cheers
Sorry for my poor english.

Obviously, as the Murphy’s Law says, all the troubles appeared in the worst moments, if possible.
But now the “angry days” are gone, when i work with clients and vbob crashes my brain automatically switch to a sort of “super-fantasy-lie-justify” mode!July 28, 2005 at 11:53 am #210353BKMParticipantWe had alot of troubble with our VBOB on Oct2 with our Smoke when we got it. SGI replaced it several times in the first year or so, we eventually got a stable board that was a new revision. (DM5)
Now it only flakes out when the incoming video is very unstable, and a full reboot will bring it back.

yeah. i disagree with you too kamen. i’ve had 5 vbobs on my octane2 running 8.5.6 before this relatively stable (thanks be to god!) one.

July 28, 2005 at 9:00 pm #210347kalthansParticipantyeah, the Oct2 + VBOB solution is horrible. almost everyone has some type of problem with them
we have 2 systems here with that config and it think each as been through at least 2 vbobs
my best suggestion is to stay on hardware support (either thru discreet or a local SGI support reseller like XS Internationl….we have the latter and they have done right by us many times)
sorry to hear about your troubles….just know you are not alone
